George Pegram

George Franklin Pegram was created and raised in Guilford Region, a farming community which was abundant with traditional music. We were young as an adolescent, the musician bought his first Silvertone banjo for $15. He also fulfilled Zack Whitaker, an area promoter who structured fiddlers’ conventions and showcases while Pegram was we were young. Also affected by his uncle Clyde Pegram, George started perfecting the “double-thumbing” design of banjo playing, a three-finger motion that used solitary notes. At age 26, Pegram wedded Dorothy Louise Dick in Guilford Region, then relocated to Statesville. Upon getting into the navy through the Second Globe War, Pegram dropped one eye through the assault on Pearl Harbor. After operating a number of unusual careers in sawmills and home furniture factories, the musician fulfilled Bascom Lamar Lunsford, a promoter of folk and “hill” dance celebrations. Needing additional serves to fill several folk celebrations in NEW YORK, Lunsford agreed upon Pegram and documented a few of his materials. Through the entire ’50s, he performed with Clegg Garner, Okie Hill Guys, and Corbett Bennett & His Hill Dudes. In 1955, Pegram used Walter “Crimson” Parhorn and much more touring and executing continuing. In 1957, Kenneth Goldstein documented the duo for Riverside Information. Known for his powerful and interesting live present, Pegram won some annual awards on the Galax Fiddlers’ Convention, like the Excellent Individual Performer both in 1966 and 1969. In 1970, he released his self-titled debut record. The record was the initial record ever released in the Boston-based Rounder Information. Pegram continuing playing until 1974, using the Asheville Folk Festival that calendar year getting his last functionality. In Sept 1974, Pegram passed away from bone tumor. In 1995, Rounder Information celebrated its metallic wedding anniversary by re-releasing the recording with six extra tracks.
