Looking similar to L.A. skater punks than normal rappers, the Metermaids blend rock using their rap to create music in the design of N.E.R.D. or the Great Kids instead of, state, Limp Bizkit. After conference in 2006, MCs Swell and Phrase found that they had a distributed like for indie rockers Arcade Open fire and Modest Mouse aswell as rap organizations the Origins and A Tribe Known as Quest, and began composing beats and rhymes collectively. Matt Stine of 3rd party record label and music creation company 27 Audio caught their display at a golf club in N.Con.C. and wanted to make their debut. Besides support the duo with beats, Stine also performed acoustic guitar on Nightlife, and having a poppy option of B-boys and indie hipsters as well, the album captured a slight hype after its launch in June of 2008, attaining interest from CMJ, YRB, and URB periodicals.
