Sacramento’s emo-pop clothing Self Against Town came together in 2004 and, only five months after forming, became the very first band signed to the Drive-Thru subsidiary Rushmore Information. The people — vocalist Jonathan Michael Temkin, guitarists Jack port Matranga and Jeff LaTour, bassist Patrick O’Connor, and drummer Chris Trombley — submitted some demos online, which Drive-Thru co-owner Richard Reines discovered and was quickly impressed by. Personal Against Town (who consider their name from mishearing a radio DJ announce Bowie’s “Suffragette Town”) soon performed a display for the label and eventually inked a offer in past due 2004.
