Tio was playing clarinet in marching rings before he moved into his teenagers and thereafter performed in lots of and varied configurations. Among the rings with which he worked well had been those led by Papa Celestin, Manuel Perez and Armand J. Piron. He originated from a prominent musical family members, a lot of whom also performed clarinet, included in this his uncle, Papa Luis Tio, and his dad, Lorenzo Tio Snr. For all your quality of his playing design, Tio’s status rests mainly upon his famous status like a teacher. Throughout a very long career like a teacher his pupils included an amazing selection of clarinet experts including Barney Bigard, Albert Nicholas, Paul Barnes, Louis Cottrell, Albert Burbank, Johnny Dodds and Jimmie Noone.
