Joseph Lederer

Nearly all Lederer’s compositions include operettas and musical comedies. They were created primarily for the fitness center in the monastery he became a member of (Augustinian, Zu den Wengen) after his primary education in Ulm. The librettos for these functions were compiled by Lederer himself and sometimes these were performed beyond Ulm in Salzburg. Lederer’s released compositions were mainly sacred including six people, cantatas, vespers, psalms, offeratories, etc. People by Lederer had been brief, sonorous and cartoon. Based on the dedication from the people, Lederer was inspried by Gluck and Haydn. “Equipment musicus” and “Neue und erbauliche Artwork zu solmisiren” are extant instrumental items by Lederer and reveal his pedagogical passions in the monastery. Obviously they were made up for begining college students.
