Homespun minimalist quartet City & Nation was shaped by guitarist/trumpeter Ben Vida, contrabassist/pianist Josh Abrams, contrabassist Liz Payne, and harmonium participant Jim Dorling, all veterans from the Chicago avant-garde community. The group’s self-titled debut documenting was issued within the Boxmedia label in 1998; the Decoration Day time EP as well as the sophomore full-length EVERYTHING Is due to It adopted on Thrill Jockey in mid-2000. Vida and Payne also became a member of makes with cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm and reedist Michael Colligan in Cushion.
