Goldcard

A side project of Pond’s reclusive Charlie Cambell, Goldcard was hardly ever really intended to start to see the light of time. Documented over years in the middle-90s with the Portland, Oregon musician, the initial Goldcard songs stick to the orchestral psych-pop custom started by Brian Wilson, while sketching on from Neglect Spence towards the melancholy of Sparklehorse. In 2002, close friends from Grandaddy, Quasi and Fish-pond helped Cambell full the tracks and urged him release a them. Cambell abided, but under no circumstances someone to follow any cultural norm, Cambell went to his record’s hearing parties within a container — so no-one could discover or contact him — interacting just through a slot machine.
