Born on Dec 25, 1939, in Indore, India, Rais Khan was trained initially by his dad Muhammad Khan but was powered by his mom when it found riyaz (practice). On his mother’s aspect he is linked to the sitar virtuoso Inayat Khan from the Imdadkhani gharana. (Find Chairman’s Choice — Great Gharanas: Imdadkhani on EMI India.) Rais Khan in addition has documented for EMI India as well as the German Loft label.
