Fabulous Depressions

New Ulm, MN, garage area outfit the Fabulous Depressions shaped in 1964 — guitarist Phil Groebner, bassist Jim Dauer, organist Peter Kitzberger, and drummer John Tretault (the second option most of 11 years of age first) completed the initial lineup, which progressed through some short-lived titles including Wholly Moses, Mind Police, and the fantastic Depression before buying a long term moniker. When Tretault remaining the Fabulous Depressions in 1966, drummer Greg DeBerry stepped in, and with the next addition of vocalist Tim Lindsay, the group started playing teen night clubs throughout Minnesota and north Iowa. DeBerry’s family members relocated out of New Ulm in 1967, occasioning the recruitment of previous Shags drummer John Ginkel; when Lindsay defected towards the rival Royal Emperors, vocalist Randy Evans authorized on with time for the Fabulous Depressions to record their lone solitary, “I CANNOT LET YOU KNOW,” an incendiary slab of fuzz-punk released on the neighborhood Mead label and years later on resurrected via the main ’66 compilation.
