Alt-country chanteuse Shelley Brief was created and raised in Portland, OR. Based on Bob Mehr’s profile within the Feb 3 edition from the Chicago Audience, she was presented to a massive range music via her record-collector dad, and following a stint playing trombone in her middle college band she performed bass within a punk duo dubbed Bogadoy. While still in senior high school, Brief grew infatuated with classic nation and honky tonk, and trained herself electric guitar while participating in the Pacific Northwest University of Artwork. Invited to try out a local open up mic night time, she had written her first unique tracks in 2001 and became a fixture from the Portland golf club scene, performing like a solo become well as with the Americana functions the Dying Ember and Anxious & a child. In 2002, Brief self-released a CD-R entitled Your Story Offers Touched My Center. In 2004, the Tucson-based Maintain Recordings released the follow-up, Oh State Small Dogies Why?, an impressively atmospheric interpretation of postmodern origins music. Later on that same yr she relocated from Portland to Chicago, assembling a fresh band composed of bassist Andy Rader, violinist Tiffany Kowalski, and drummer Jamie Carter. The acclaimed Captain Crazy Horse (Trips the very center of Tomorrow) adopted on Hush Information in early 2006.
