Self-consciously quirky indie rock trio Sleeping in the Aviary played its first gigs within their hometown of Madison, WI, in the springtime of 2004. A high-energy group with brand-new wave leanings highly similar to early XTC and Speaking Minds before they found out Brian Eno as well as the non-esuch Explorer series, Sleeping in the Aviary also includes a collection in occasionally valuable, studiedly “wacky” lyrics commensurate with the nonsensical music group name.
