Home / Biography / Matadors

Sweden’s Matadors had been founded in 2001 by vocalist/guitarist Andreas Bergström and drummer Jonas Jönsson (previously of Ridge), but would proceed through about eight different bass players before acquiring a likeminded spirit in Johan Anderberg. Jointly motivated with the compressed post-stoner rock and roll and unstable stylistic idiosyncrasies of Queens from the Rock Age group (or Kyuss fits Devo, if you like), the trio released their debut full-length, The Muse of Señor Ray, in 2005, after that followed it using the sophomore Fire the Whisper in 2007. The last mentioned noticed the addition of program guitarist Lars Andersson towards the fold, and both albums also included Tarantino-esque nods to Latin music rhythms.
