Yanick Dutelly

The musical traditions of Haiti have already been taken to Canada by vocalist Yanick Dutelly. A previous announcer for Radio Haiti, she documented several jingles for Radio Haiti International and Radio Metropolis before shifting to Montreal in 1991 to review blues and jazz technique with Trisha Pope and vocalizing with Marie-Clare Segun. An extended stay in Western Africa allowed her to accept what she known as “the main resources of the rhythms and tradition of Haiti.” Dutelly started singing as an adolescent when she performed using the choir and traditional dance troupe at Parish of St. Gerard in Port-au-Prince.
