British isles noise rockers Essential oil Seed Rape often drew comparisons to abrasive American bands like Butthole Surfers, the Jesus Lizard, Swans, and especially Big Dark. The last mentioned resemblance was a lot more pronounced in early stages, when the group utilized a drum machine that provided it hook industrial flavor similar to Godflesh. Essential oil Seed Rape was the brainchild of 1 W. Travis, who produced the band being a one-man home-recording task in rural Gloucestershire, and called it following the yellowish flowering place cultivated in the region. Travis started offering his demonstration tape in regional record shops, which resulted in an expansion from the group’s lineup to a trio format. Essential oil Seed Rape relocated to Norwich in 1992, where they performed their initial live gigs, and shifted to London in 1993. There they documented a program for renowned DJ John Peel off, and released an EP for the indie label Jackass known as Paid. The EP produced the U.K. indie singles graphs and paved just how for their just full-length, 6 Measures to Womanhood, released afterwards in 1993. The group continued to be useful until 1995, and Travis came back to his one-man-band root base and finally resurfaced as Actions.
