Mulchmen

A Dayton, Ohio-based instrumental surf-revival combo, the Mulchmen were formed in 1995 and originally contains Nick Kizirnis (electric guitar, theremin), Brian Bagdonus (bass), and Gregg Spence (drums). When Bagdonus still left the group (and Dayton), Brian Hogarth was recruited from the neighborhood scene to consider his place. Following paths blazed by ’50s/early-’60s instrumentalists like Hyperlink Wray, Dick Dale, and Duane Eddy (and adding a dosage of post-punk irony), the trio documented a seven-inch EP entitled All of the News That’s Suit to Browse! in 1996. After adding two tracks towards the compilation Rock and roll Don’t Work, Vol. 2, the Mulchmen released their debut record, Louder Than Dirt, Thicker Than Dirt!, in 1998.
