Kenn Cox

Detroit local Kenny Cox (who preferred Kenn to Kenny) was created on November 8, 1940. He started playing music on trumpet, and analyzed in the Detroit Conservatory of Music from 1949-1958, but experienced abandoned the horn for the piano like a freshman at Cass Technology SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL in 1956, where he began using the piano. Upon graduation from Cass Technology in 1958, he went to the Detroit Conservatory of Music from 1949-1958 as well as the Detroit Institute of Music Arts from 1959-1961. Cox after that left for NEW YORK, where he linked to Etta Jones and was her accompanist and music movie director until 1966, also focusing on event with Helen Humes and Ernestine Anderson. He came back to Detroit and became a member of a renowned hard bop quintet led by trombonist George Bohannon. He produced the Societie from the Culturally Worried, became an adjunct teacher at Wayne Condition and Michigan Condition Universities, resided in NEVADA teaching for a short stint, and was an trainer for the Cal Condition Summer Arts plan. In Detroit he led a trio offering Bert Myrick and Marion Hayden as well as the percussion-oriented bigger ensemble Drum with Djallo Djakate Keita, Mahindi Masai, Igbo, and Greg Make. He passed away of lung cancers at his house in Detroit on Dec 19, 2008 at age 68.
