Presented in accurate carnival side-show style like a blind mountain guy just recently plucked from obscurity to execute for the civilized world, Jilson Setters documented several edges for RCA Victor as well as the Library of Congress, and made an appearance all over the world including NY society features and before England’s King George V. Given birth to James William Day time in Cattlesburg, Kentucky, Setters 1st gained fame as a result of Jean “Traipsin’ Female” Thomas, the organizer of Ashland’s American Folk Track Festival. Thomas offered him in the event as “the Singin’ Fiddler of Shed Wish Hollow,” a guy who’d been blind from delivery until right before his introduction. (The storyplot will go that his new-found eyesight, thanks to a medical procedure, made the looks of civilization that a lot more surprising for him.) Many academics apparently verified the storyplot, and Setters produced the rounds of folk celebrations and culture balls. Also the subjet of the book, Setters ultimately presented himself towards the king aswell. He recorded edges during the past due ’20s, and continuing to perform in to the early ’40s until right before his loss of life — apparently without the suspicions regarding his background.
