Blessed in Tokyo in 1949, Ichiro Seki graduated from your NHK Japan Traditional Music College in 1973. He privately analyzed Traditional western compositions, his curiosity being in getting traditional Japanese devices together with Traditional western instruments. He published, among other items, a bit for shakuhachi and harpsichord (entirely on his Compact disc Contrasts) and a different one for shakuhachi and feminine tone of voice. In 1975 he received the first reward for Japanese traditional music in the Pan-Music Event. Since that time he offers performed broadly in Japan and abroad. In the 1990s, he received many honours for his compositions. In 1996, he was granted the first reward for a structure competition for Japanese musical devices, while in 1998 his structure “Pentagonia” for five soloists and an orchestra made up of 100 shakuhachi was performed in the Globe Shakuhachi Event 1998 in Boulder, CO. He analyzed shakuhachi using the well-known Japanese shakuhachi grasp, Katsuya Yokoyama, the piano with Hiroshi Aoshim, and structure with Shuko Mizuno and Yoriaki Matsudaira.
