While traveling past a billboard advertising campaign to get a Panda Hut, Chris Connelly jokingly asked his bandmates if the Chinese buffet string served steaming panda bear on grain. This spawned the name Sizzling Panda — an properly cheeky name to get a cheeky indie pop group. With an accepted inability to try out their tools with skill and a like for peppy melodies, the associates from the Canadian four-piece have a lo-fi method of their music. Despite getting rooted in ’70s punk and Brit-pop, they audio nothing beats the Buzzcocks or Tv, two of their affects, and with sloppily performed tambourines, glockenspiels, and accordion on the tracks, they even more carefully resemble Los Campesinos! or the brand new Pornographers fronted by Daniel Johnston. Sizzling hot Panda were produced in January of 2006 after Connelly and Maghan Campbell came back from living overseas in Oslo, Norway, and recruited Mike Robertson and Keith Olsen. They began practicing within a garage area in Edmonton, Alberta, and by 2007 acquired recorded their initial EP, Whale Going Girl, and started touring within a beat-down 1977 ambulance that they affectionately called “the Pig.” Over 100 shows followed during the period of a calendar year, including displays at CMJ, SXSW, and Pop Montreal. Eventually, the toils of the street used down Robertson, who was simply changed by multi-instrumentalist Heath Parsons. With Parsons acquiring electric guitar, accordion, and key pad responsibilities — alongside Olsen on bass, Campbell on drums, and Connelly on vocals and electric guitar — Sizzling hot Panda continuing gigging, eventually acquiring the stage at the brand new Music Western world in Vancouver. There, the music group caught the interest of Mint Information and was asked to try out the indie label’s Xmas party. They documented their initial full-length, Volcano…Bloody Volcano, in Feb of 2008 with Ryan McVeigh in Winnipeg’s Mid Sea Studios. The official give to indication to Mint implemented in Apr, and Volcano…Bloody Volcano premiered in Feb of 2009, at a Compact disc release party in Edmonton about ROMANTIC DAYS CELEBRATION. In November of this yr, Olsen remaining that music group and was changed by Catherine Hiltz, who was simply playing trumpet at a number of the group’s concert events. She was up to speed for the documenting of their second recording, WHY I’m Dead, that was released by Mint in Oct of 2010.
