Culture Reject may be the single task of Michael McDonnell, formerly of Dark Cabbage. Drawing through the drowsy, flexible rhythms of traditional African and Cuban music and imbuing his compositions with some multi-instrumental glimmer ? la Sufjan Stevens, McDonnel developed a method of sweet-yet-gritty folk that place him in the same business, soundwise, as Bon Iver and Grizzly Carry. Tradition Reject’s self-titled debut full-length premiered on White colored Whale in 2008 and presented a visitor appearance by Jim Guthrie.
