Bill Russell

Perhaps one of the most important authors and historians mixed up in New Orleans Revival from the 1940s, Costs Russell had many achievements behind the moments. A violinist who acquired extensive research in both functionality and structure, Russell was using the Crimson Gate Darkness Players from 1934-40. Throughout that period, he became enamored with New Orleans jazz. He bought and marketed information through the Sizzling hot Record Exchange, which he went beginning in 1935. Russell was a jazz journalist with the middle-1930s, adding three chapters towards the 1939 reserve Jazzmen and writing and submitting articles for Jazz Sizzling hot. Russell helped discover Bunk Johnson in 1942, documenting the ignored cornetist. Russell noted a number of well-known and obscure New Orleans music artists on his American Music label from 1944-57; a lot of its periods have got since been reissued by GHB. Russell proved helpful in New Orleans as the curator from the jazz archive at Tulane School from 1958-65, and his interviews helped record the early background of jazz. During his old age, beginning in 1967, Costs Russell had possibilities to play violin with the brand new Orleans Ragtime Orchestra.
