Cleveland proto-punk combo the Styrenes was originally formed in 1971 by vocalist/guitarist Jamie Klimek, bassist Craig Bell, and drummer Mike Weldon; in the beginning dubbed the Mirrors, the three high schoolers quickly added guitarist Jim Crook towards the lineup, honing a loud pop sound therefore out of stage with other regional functions that live gigs became difficult to come across. Still, the Mirrors forged forward, documenting a 1975 program which ultimately yielded the solitary “She Smiled Crazy,” released on Pere Ubu’s David Thomas’ Hearthen label 2 yrs later. By that point, the Mirrors acquired rechristened themselves the Styrenes, changed Bell with bassist Jim Jones, and released the one “Drano inside your Blood vessels.” In 1980, Klimek and keyboardist Paul Marotta relocated to NEW YORK, where they produced a fresh Styrenes lineup and released the LP Gal Crazy the next calendar year; 1989’s Monster as well as the Devil discovered the group support onetime Pagans frontman Mike Hudson. After many more years from the limelight, a newly documented Mirrors record, Another Nail within the Remodeled Coffin, premiered in 1994. Weldon, on the other hand, went on to create the cult preferred B-movie newspaper Psychotronic Video, and Jones afterwards surfaced within the latter-day incarnation of Pere Ubu. Shockingly more than enough, the music group reunited in 1998 and began where they still left away, representing their indigenous Ohio using a distinctly tough and tumble rock and roll sound which was familiar to anyone who implemented them before.
