Sneaky Feelings

So named honoring the Elvis Costello tune, Sneaky Feelings formed in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1980. Made up of guitarists Matthew Bannister and David Pine, bassist Kathryn Tyrie, and drummer Martin Durrant — all of whom added to both vocals and songwriting — the group initial appeared in the 1981 compilation released with the simply launched Traveling Nun label, Dunedin Increase, that they quickly implemented with the one “Be MY PAL.” An extended layoff was following, as Durrant spent a protracted period abroad; in 1983, Tyrie was changed by bassist John Kelcher, further deterring the group’s improvement, however in 1984, Sneaky Emotions finally released their acclaimed debut LP, Send You. The traditional one, “Husband Home,” implemented in 1985, with “MUCH BETTER THAN Before” surfacing a season later. Sneaky Emotions’ sophomore work, Sentimental Education, seemed to lukewarm testimonials in 1987; Hard Appreciate Stories, released a year afterwards, proved a lot more successful, though it proclaimed the group’s last recordings with Durrant, who was simply changed by drummer Ross Burge. When Kelcher exited in middle-1989, Sneaky Emotions disbanded; Bannister continued to create the Dribbling Darts, while Kelcher resurfaced in Creeley and Pine became a member of Loss of life Ray Cafe. A 1990 Sneaky Emotions reunion gig yielded three live paths afterwards appended to a Compact disc reissue of Send You.
