Sand

Given birth to in Chicago in 1979, drummer Dylan Ryan was a heavy steel lover but studied with Chicago jazz numbers and ultimately started using like-minded musicians from the city’s avant jazz and experimental rock and roll areas. He performed at locations around city in ensembles of varied configurations before showing up on recordings by organizations including Herculaneum, Michael Columbia (a duo, not really a person), Icy Demons, and Orso through the 2000s. Ryan consequently relocated to LA, even though living there started his 1st group like a innovator, Fine sand, an instrumental guitar-bass-drums trio also offering guitarist Timothy Youthful (Zony Mash) and bassist Devin Hoff (Nels Cline Performers). With a lot of the trio’s materials penned by Ryan, Fine sand became a car for Young’s amazing guitar work, which range from expansive and atmospheric to crushingly large and wildly pyrotechnic, backed by the innovative, solid, and propulsive Ryan-Hoff tempo team. Cuneiform Information released Sand’s debut record, Sky Bleached, in 2013, accompanied by sophomore outing Circa the next year.
