Roy Loney

Bay Region local Roy Loney, a founding person in the fantastic Flamin’ Groovies, quit the music group in the first ’70s, ostensibly to pursue a single profession. Oddly, his 1st solo documenting didn’t show up until 1979, almost seven years after departing the Groovies. Within the interim, Loney experienced taken some record industry careers, at one stage working being a merchant for the today defunct ABC Information, with the funky and fantastic Jack’s Record Cellar in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA. Despite the hold off, Loney’s go back to rock and roll & roll efficiency was auspicious; there is a significant EP, 100 Miles one hour, focused on Sissy Spacek, that was accompanied by the outrageous and woolly full-length LP, Out AT NIGHT. Eschewing the Byrds-ian pop path that previous partner Cyril Jordan got now used the Groovies, Loney’s information had been wild-eyed, rockabilly-fueled chunks of joyous sound, with very much shaking, rattling, and moving provided by the fantastic electric guitar playing of ex-Groovies Adam Ferrell and drummer Danny Mihm. Today fully built-into the past due-’70s/early-’80s rock and roll scene, Loney, keeping his deservedly hip qualifications, released a string of great information from 1979-1983 on mainly small indie brands, eventually falling out of view in 1984. In fact, he simply withdrew through the rock and roll scene for some time and continued to try out within the Bay Region and just work at Jack’s. In the past due ’80s, documenting for roots rock and roll label Norton, Loney unleashed The Scientific Bombs Away, that was a good, if nearly totally disregarded record. Packed with raving guitars, hiccuping vocals, and his completely original love of life, Loney got produced a triumphant go back to rock and roll. Too bad no-one seemed to treatment. Later, Loney documented an excellent cover of Sam the Sham’s “I Couldn’t Spell !!*@!” using the Seattle band Youthful Fresh Fellows.
