RJ Spangler

Detroit drummer/maker/supervisor RJ Spangler is really a journeyman musician who did very much to resurrect the professions of some forgotten blues performers. A flexible performer, Spangler provides performed with such luminaries as Martha & the Vandellas, Adam Carter, Big Jay McNeely, and many more. Introduced to jazz and blues by his uncle, drummer Bud Spangler, who used Detroit jazz legends the Tribe, R.J. was raised hearing the greats from the music. By the first ’80s Spangler acquired formed his very own jazz band, sunlight Messengers, who gained a Motor Town Music Prize in 1982. Although he spent the majority of his teenagers and twenties concentrating on jazz, Spangler hardly ever forgot in regards to the blues, and after viewing guitarist Johnnie Bassett perform on the Montreux-Detroit International Jazz Celebration in the first ’90s, Spangler asked Bassett to become listed on his music group. Bassett had dropped into obscurity because the period he was an effective session man within the ’50s and ’60s, but with Spangler’s help Bassett’s profession got back on the right track and culminated in an effective tour of European countries. Since that time Spangler provides helped various other blues performers resurrect their professions, including vocalists Alberta Adams, Joe Weaver, Odessa Harris, among others. In ’09 2009, Spangler released YOU UNDERSTAND I CANNOT Refuse: The Expenses Heid Sessions, offering pianist/vocalist Expenses Heid.
