Although Dolphin “Naggo” Morris is most likely best remembered because the man who replaced singer and bassist Leroy Sibbles within the Heptones in 1977, he also documented several stunning singles by himself, including the traditional “Su Su Pon Rasta” (made by the Mighty Two, Errol Thompson, and Joe Gibbs) in 1975 as well as the Bunny Lee-produced “Flour Power,” in addition to many 12″ releases for Lloyd “Bullwackie” Barnes’ Bronx-based Wackies label. Morris’ passionate baritone is definitely in proof on whatever materials he tackles, and he’s perhaps one of the most woefully overlooked (and under-recorded) root base performers in Jamaica.
