La Piva Dal Carner

The music and dance traditions of northern Italy are coupled with influences of Western Europe’s Celtic music by Italian quartet, la Piva Dal Carner (translated: the bagpipe using the bag). Among the uncommon Italian bands to include the bagpipe, whose traditional function was usurped with the violin in the 17th hundred years, la Piva Dal Carner make a sound that, although rooted in historic traditions, retains an extremely contemporary sensibility. La Piva Dal Carner features Claudio Pesky Caroli (dual bass, didgeridoo, piano, and vocals), Marco Mainini (vocals, saxophone, acoustic guitar, bagpipe, and clarinet), Walter Rizzo (bagpipe, oboe, flutes, and vocals), and Paulo Simonazzi (hurdy gurdy, two row melodeon, and vocals).
