La Luz

Proving that depth and fun won’t need to become mutually exclusive, La Luz are an all-female quartet who fuse the harmonies of doo wop and lady group pop using the splashy guitars of browse music, the low-budget keyboards of ’60s garage area rock, and the easy but snappy rhythms of first-era rock and roll & move with lyrics that speak from your heart as well as the spirit. La Luz had been formed in the summertime of 2012 by guitarist and vocalist Shana Cleveland, who experienced previously recorded using the Curious Secret and Shana Cleveland & the Sandcastles. Buying basic, upbeat, but forceful audio, Cleveland joined causes with Alice Sandahl on secrets, Abbey Blackwell on bass, and Marian Li-Pino (another previous person in the Curious Secret) on drums, with all sharing vocals. Implementing the name La Luz (Spanish for “the light”), the brand new group wasted virtually no time engaging in the studio room (in cases like this, a makeshift documenting setup inside a truck), liberating a four-song EP, Moist Face, prior to the 12 months was out. In 2013, La Luz decreased 7″ singles on two über-hip indie brands, Suicide Press and Mississippi Information, and quickly the Sub Pop-distributed Barely Art label arrived phoning, reissuing the Moist Encounter EP and in Oct 2013 issuing their 1st full-length recording, It’s Alive. La Luz quickly hit the street to market the recording, and in November 2013, these were coming back house from a gig when their truck skidded on the patch of dark glaciers, swerved, and was struck with a vehicle. The accident ruined La Luz’s truck and far of their equipment, and still left the music artists with minor accidents; a tour with Of Montreal needed to be canceled, and bassist Blackwell still left the music group, but by March 2014, La Luz recruited a fresh bassist, Lena Simon, and returned on the highway. In early 2015, La Luz began focus on their second record, recording within a surfboard store in San Dimas, California, with Ty Segall offering as manufacturer and engineer. The completed product, entitled Weirdo Shrine, premiered by Hardly Artwork on August 7, 2015, as well as the group going out on a global concert tour in support.
