Mark Tucker

Tag Tucker was a renowned biographer and researcher (although he was also a talented pianist), whose major subject over time was the fantastic Duke Ellington, and also other renowned jazz music artists. Although he originally performed traditional music while students at Yale College or university, he began monitoring jazz more completely while focusing on his master’s level in musicology, particularly the functions of such experts as Jelly Move Morton, Count number Basie, Thelonious Monk, and Ellington. Tucker trained at Columbia College or university from 1987 to 1997, where time many of the books he had written were released — the acclaimed biography/musical evaluation Ellington: THE FIRST Years, The Duke Ellington Audience, and added to Jazz Right from the start, while also providing liner records for such Ellington Compact disc reissues as Piano Reflections and Reprise Studio room Recordings. Furthermore to his books, Tucker also added to THE BRAND NEW York Times, Dark Music Study Journal, and American Music (amongst others), and in 1997, became the David N. and Margaret C. Bottoms Teacher of Music and teacher of American research at the faculty of William and Mary. Tucker also didn’t permit his piano abilities go to waste materials, as he performed Ellington applications on the Kennedy Middle for the Performing Arts, the Smithsonian Organization, the Country wide Humanities Middle, and appeared being a soloist using the Chicago Jazz Outfit. Tucker passed away from lung cancers on Dec 6, 2000, in Williamsburg, VA, at age 46.
