Karen Geoghegan

Karen Geoghegan is a Scottish bassoonist. After learning violin as a kid, she used the bassoon at age group 12 and took lessons from Russell Cowieson. She continued to review with Janet Bloxwich in the Junior Academy from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Theatre, and went to the Royal Academy of Music in London, learning with John Orford. Champion from the Gilbert Innes Reward as well as the Wolfson Scholarship or grant, Geoghegan joined up with the National Youngsters Orchestra of Scotland and in addition performed with Camerata Scotland NYOS Futures, a modern music ensemble. In 2007, Geoghegan made an appearance within the BBC Two tv program Classical Superstar. Ralph Couzens, managing movie director of Chandos Information, saw her functionality, which resulted in her signing using the label. She’s performed with the town of London Sinfonia, the BBC Philharmonic, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Scottish Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of Opera North, and performed on the BBC Proms under Gianandrea Noseda. She’s also provided a recital at Wigmore Hall being a receiver of the Royal Academy of Music’s Wigmore Prize. She received the Meaker Fellowship on the Royal Academy of Music for the 2010/2011 educational year.
