As a kid we were young in Des Moines, IA, Jolynn Daniel discovered to play your guitar and sing by aping the noises of her parents’ record collection, including such folky 1970s heavyweights as Laura Nyro, Jackson Browne, and Joni Mitchell. Those willowy noises proved important to Daniel, who with the past due ’80s was executing regularly in NY City’s growing Greenwich Community neo-folk picture. There she installed with guitarist Janson Press and drummer Shawn Pelton, who teamed with her to record her full-length debut. Suspended slipped in 1994, and its own Americana-style rock and roll and folk audio found a confident reception at AAA radio. By 1997’s Cosmic Girl (Rebel Sky Music), Daniel got resolved in Nashville, and the positioning afforded her beneficial exposure and person to person. A support tour for bluesy Brit William Topley adopted (through Music City-based Shed Highway). Daniel following released a live recording through Rebel Sky and pursuing it with Arrive Nearer in early 2003. It had been the most adult representation however of Daniel’s mainstream mixture of folk, nation, and pop and included efforts from Matthew Ryan and ex-Wilco skins guy Ken Coomer.
