Johnny Frigo

Johnny Frigo has really had two professions. He began playing violin in sentence structure college and after switching to tuba to be able to perform in his junior senior high school music group, he used the bass. Frigo began playing professionally like a bassist in 1934 and experienced some low-profile careers until becoming a member of Jimmy Dorsey in the middle-’40s. In 1947, he created a trio with guitarist Plant Ellis and pianist Lou Carter, known as Soft Winds, that was well-known for a couple of years; they co-wrote “Detour Forward” and “I Informed Ya I REALLY LIKE Ya, Now Obtain Out.” Following the group disbanded in the first ’50s, Frigo became a studio room bassist in Chicago for many years, playing classes, jingles, and golf club times.
