Great Lake Swimmers

Featuring a mixture of acoustic tools, rural soundscapes, and wistful vocals, Great Lake Swimmers are an indie folk group led by songwriter/vocalist Tony Dekker. The group initial made an appearance in 2003 using a haunting self-titled debut which was recorded within a grain silo and released by Weewerk Information, a little label located in the band’s indigenous Toronto. Misra Information found the record and released it stateside in Apr 2005. Recording periods for Great Lake Swimmers’ second record started that same season, with the music group taking up home in an outdated cathedral in rural southern Ontario. The completed product, Systems and Minds, premiered toward the finish of 2006, offering another mixture of homespun folk and lush, close Americana. Although currently well-known in Canada, the music group began creating a wider market in 2007 by putting your signature on to a fresh label, Nettwerk, and launching the well-received Ongiara. The album’s initial monitor, “Your Rocky Spine,” topped the Canadian indie graphs and appeared in the soundtrack to Showtime’s Weeds. Such elevated attention held Great Lake Swimmers on tour for the better section of 2 yrs, however they still were able to take the time off to record a 4th album. Vacationing between multiple places within the Thousands of Islands area and somewhere else in northern NY condition, the group strike an innovative high maximum with Lost Stations, that was released in ’09 2009. The Legion Classes, an EP offering live variations of several Shed Channels music, also made an appearance that 12 months. In 2012 Great Lake Swimmers released New Crazy Everywhere, their 1st album to become recorded in a normal studio room. For 2015’s A Forest of Hands, the group documented in studios, little music locations, and a number of unconventional areas, including Tyendinaga Cavern and Caves, the oldest organic cavern in Ontario.
