b. 30 August 1899, Boston, Massachusetts, USA, d. 25 Feb 1968, NEW YORK, NY, USA. The boy of actor-director George F. Marion, he was informed in Switzerland with Harvard. In the 20s he had written silent film game titles, finding a 1929 Oscar nomination. For early talkies he wrote music lyrics, many with music by Richard Whiting: ‘My Sweeter Than Lovely’, Sweetie (1929), ‘My Potential Simply Passed’, ‘You Charm To Me’ while others, Protection In Amounts, ‘A Peach OF THE Set’, Follow Thru, ‘It APPEARS TO BE Springtime’, ‘My Mad Second’, ‘Don’t I REALLY DO?’ while others, Permit’s Go Local (all 1930), co-writing the screenplay for the second option with Percy Heath, and ‘My Initial WANT TO Last’ and ‘My Heart’s Desire’, Adorable (1933). He also had written ‘This SHOULD BE Illegal (It’s Therefore Great)’, lyrics by Ralph Rainger and W. Franke Harling, Ocean Hip and legs (1930). He had written screenplays for THE BEST Broadcast and Like Me Tonight (both 1932), the second option in cooperation with Samuel Hoffenstein and Waldemar Youthful, We’re Not really Dressing, with Horace Jackson and Francis Martin, as well as the Homosexual Divorcee, with Dorothy Yost and Edward Kaufman, (both 1934), while his publication for the Richard Rodgers – Lorenz Hart stage musical, WAY TOO MANY Girls (1939), offered the foundation for the 1940 film. Marion’s additional stage displays included Defeat The Music group (1942, filmed 1947), composing reserve and lyrics, with music by Johnny Green. The music included ‘Break It Up’, ‘Every Various other Heartbeat’, ‘I’m Physical, You’re Cultured’, ‘Maintain It Informal’ and ‘Melody FROM THE Islands’. In 1943 he collaborated with Fatty acids Waller on Early To Bed, composing reserve and lyrics to music including ‘A Gal Who Doesn’t Ripple When She Bends’, ‘There’s A GUY In My Lifestyle’, ‘Me And My Aged World Attraction’, ‘Supple Few’, ‘The Females Who Sing WITH ALL THE Music group’, ‘Long Period No Melody’ and ‘When The Nylons Bloom Once again’. With Karl Farkas he composed the reserve for Marinka (1945), and in addition lyrics to Emmerich Kálmán’s music, including ‘Convert On The Attraction’, ‘Deal with A Woman SUCH AS A Drum’, ‘One Contact Of Vienna’ and ‘If I Hardly ever Waltz Once again’. Also in 1945 emerged Toplitzky Of Notre Dame, composing reserve and lyrics to Sammy Fain’s music, including ‘Appreciate Is normally A Random Thing’ and ‘You Are My Down Fall’. Marion composed the reserve for Arabian Evenings (1954), which starred Lauritz Melchior, Helena Scott and Ralph Herbert, music and lyrics by Carmen Lombardo and John Jacob Loeb.
