Darondo

A significant favorite in funk collectors’ circles, sugary soul crooner Darondo was created William Pulliam in Berkeley, CA. After getting his first electric guitar at age eight, he afterwards teamed with a small number of school friends to create the house music group on the Lucky 13, a location teen club. Based on Oliver Wang’s profile within the Apr/Might 2006 problem of Polish Poetics, Pulliam afterwards educated as an electrician but maintained his musical dreams, and in 1970 trim his initial Darondo one, “How I ACQUIRED Over,” for the fledging unbiased label Ocampo. Recommending an earthier, street-smart Al Green, the record was hampered by distribution complications but still became a fixture on regional radio place KSOL, gaining Darondo the eye of Ray Dobard’s Music Town imprint. Despite documenting a whole LP’s worthy of of materials, the label released just one single lone one, the lush “Didn’t I.” Darondo also opened up for James Dark brown and enjoyed a protracted residency on the famed SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA membership Bimbo’s, but carrying out a third one, the obscure Af-Fa Globe release “Hip and legs,” his music profession ground to some halt.
