Cumberland Ridge Runners

Perhaps one of the most important of the first groups to seem regularly in the WLS Country wide Barn Dance in Chicago. The performers and music artists (primarily from Support Vernon and Berea, Kentucky) had been taken to WLS in 1930 by their innovator John Lair (b. 1 July 1894, on the plantation near Livingston, Kentucky, USA, d. 13 November 1985, Lexington, Kentucky, USA). At that time they performed WLS, users of the group included Crimson Foley (b. Clyde Julian Foley, 17 June 1910, inside a vacation cabin between Blue Lick and Berea, Kentucky, USA, d. 19 Sept 1968, Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA), Karl (b. Karl Davis, 17 Dec 1905, Support Vernon, Kentucky, USA, d. 30 Might 1979) And Harty (b. Hartford Connecticut Taylor, 11 Apr 1905, Support Vernon, Kentucky, USA, d. 18 Oct 1963), Hugh Mix (b. Hugh Ballard Mix, 19 Oct 1904, Oliver Springs, Tennessee, USA, d. 1970), and Thin Miller (b. Homer Miller, 8 March 1898, Lisbon, Indiana, USA, d. 27 August 1962) an achieved fiddler by age 12 as well as the group’s comedian. Also included was Doc Hopkins (b. Howard Hopkins, 26 January 1900, Harlan Region, Kentucky, USA, d. 3 January 1988, Chicago, Illinois, USA), an old-time vocalist, who performed acoustic guitar and banjo, experienced documented for Broadway, ARC and Decca Information and became mentioned like a teacher from the banjo through the 50s, and in addition Linda Parker (b. 18 January 1912, Covington, Kentucky, USA – but was raised in Indiana, d. 12 August 1935), who, originally well-known around the Chicago well-known music scene, really was the celebrity of the group. Referred to as the Sunbonnet Lady, Parker performed banjo and acoustic guitar and sang genuine folk ballads, and was mourned by many when she fulfilled an untimely loss of life in 1935. The group offered the 1st sponsored half-hour program on theNational Barn Dance (theAladdin Mantle Display) and had been among the 1st to feature square-dancers within their take action. When Lair remaining WLS in 1937, the Ridge Joggers essentially folded; some adopted Lair as well as others continued to go after their own professions. Most members documented as solo performers.
