The musical traditions of West Africa are combined with folk music of Norway by Setesdal, Norway-based quartet, Fra Senegal Til Setesdal. Using the vocals and Jew’s harp playing of Norwegian natives Kirsten Braten Berg and Bjergulu Straume established to the melodic strings of Senegal-born Single Cisokho’s kora as well as the rhythms of Cote d’Ivorie-born Koriame Sereba’s drums, the group seamlessly mixes distinct cultural root base. The motivation for Fra Senegal Til Setesdal was sparked, in 1995, soon after Berg and Straume fulfilled Cissokho and Sereba, who acquired emigrated to Norway. Berg acquired previously performed Norwegian folk music being a soloist so that as a member from the Arild Andersen Group.
