Contemporary Jazz Quintet

Not to end up being confused with the U.S. band of exactly the same name, this Modern Jazz Quintet provides its root base in Denmark. Because the Modern Jazz Quartet — trumpet participant Hugh Steinmetz, alto sax guy Franz Beckerlee, bassist Steffen Andersen, along with a revolving ensemble of drummers, including Sunny Murray using one time — they performed frequently and documented an record in 1964. The Quintet released its most daring record, TCJQ, in 1968 for the Danish Debut label. It highlighted early tests with amplified musical instruments and was released on Compact disc by Steeplechase in 2001 within a double Compact disc titled Action acknowledged to the Modern Jazz Quartet. That collection shouldn’t be baffled with Activities 1966-67, a previously unreleased record of sessions documented in 1966 and 1967 which was released in 2005 by Atavistic within the Unheard Music Series.
