Cecil Gant

Pianist Cecil Gant seemingly materialized from the wartime mist to generate perhaps one of the most enduring blues ballads from the 1940s. Gant was previous age group 30 when he burst onto the picture within a most uncommon method — he popped up in armed forces uniform in a LA war-bonds rally sponsored with the Treasury Section. Personal Gant proceeded to electrify the constructed multitude along with his piano prowess, resulting in his imminent 1944 debut on Oakland’s Gilt-Edge Information: the mellow pop-slanted ballad “I Question,” which topped the R&B graphs despite a wartime shellac lack that hit small independent businesses like Gilt-Edge especially hard. Its turn, the somewhat more cartoon “Cecil’s Boogie,” was popular in its correct. Pvt.
