Alvin Curran

American composer Alvin Curran co-founded the group Musica Elettronica Viva and continues to be active with single performances, worldwide radio concerts and large-scale sound installations because the 1960s. Created in Providence, Rhode Isle, Curran studied structure under Ron Nelson at Dark brown University or college, and afterward with Elliott Carter at Yale. After completing his research — which also included piano and trombone — in 1963, Curran proceeded to go with Carter to Berlin, where he continued to be for a calendar year before shifting to Rome. In 1966, Curran co-founded the free of charge music collective Musica Elettronica Viva with Richard Teitelbaum and Frederic Rzewski. In the ’70s, Curran centered on single performances that used keyboards, taped noises, voice and even more; over time, he in addition has performed on sampler and consumer electronics. The ’80s discovered Curran creating large-scale environmental functions in quarries, slots, caverns, on lakes, etc. During this time period, he also staged radio concerts of three and six ensembles executing simultaneously from differing of European countries. From 1990 on, Curran provides sometimes collaborated on audio installations with musician Melissa Gould. He in addition has caused dance businesses and constructed for avant-garde movie theater in Rome. Curran’s instrumental functions have already been commissioned by Kronos Quartet, Aki Takahashi, Rova, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and even more.
