60 Watt Kid

While surviving in poverty, singer Kevin Litrow needed to vacation resort to stealing lights from his apartment’s laundry space frequently to maintain his place lit. In a reaction to his petty offences, the manager from the house complex published a bulletin that warned tenants to “look out for the 60 watt child.” This alias spawned the name for Litrow’s folk-noise task. Previously of Dance Catastrophe Movement, in 2002 he forgotten his loud dance-punk duo to try out single acoustic freakout models around L.A. and Orange State before pairing up with multi-instrumentalist Derek Thomas and documenting a demonstration of droney psychedelic pop onto a CD-R. After choosing a proceed to the birthplace of psychedelic music, SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, they found drummer/xylophonist Garrett Pierce and began producing a name for themselves playing Café du Nord, the Hemlock, and different warehouses in the region. The music group added 8-mm video footage to their concert events, creating a delicious ’60s kitsch backdrop for the ambient swells of audio of their improvisational pop melodies, and in line with the merits of an individual live performance, Certainly Kosher agreed upon 60 Watt Child to its roster and released their debut self-titled LP in early November of 2007.
