Tracie Teen began her performing career at only 17 years, when she was discovered by Jam head Paul Weller through a paper advertisement for his new Respond label. Teen sang on the ultimate Jam one, “Defeat Surrender,” and on Weller’s first few Design Council singles aswell. Her debut record, DEFINATELY NOT the Harming Kind, premiered in 1984 beneath the name Tracie, and highlighted production, support, and songwriting from Weller aswell as an Elvis Costello melody written specifically for her, “(I REALLY LIKE You) When You Rest.” The record was reissued in Japan in 1996.
