Tony MacAlpine

Progressive metallic guitar virtuoso Tony MacAlpine began his musical education being a classically-trained pianist and violinist; his following rock recordings maintained a pronounced traditional influence, incorporating components of jazz and fusion aswell. He debuted in 1986 using the instrumental Advantage of Insanity, documented with an all-star line-up including bassist Billy Sheehan and ex-Journey drummer Steve Smith; for the follow-up, Task: Drivers, MacAlpine produced the music group M.A.R.S. with drummer Tommy Aldridge, vocalist Bob Rock and roll and bassist Rudi Sarzo. The group quickly dissolved and MacAlpine came back to his single career, additionally developing his very own label, Squawk; after 1987’s Optimum Protection, he founded another group, dubbed merely MacAlpine, with vocalist Alan Schorn, keyboardist Tag Robertson, bassist Mike Jacques and drummer Billy Carmassi. The band’s lone record, Eye of the Globe, made an appearance in 1990, and MacAlpine came back to instrumental tasks for the rest of the 10 years, issuing some albums including 1992’s Independence to Take a flight, 1995’s Progression, 1997’s Live Insanity and 2000’s Cab. Cab 2 implemented in 2001.
