Tom Harrell

A first-rate trumpet soloist, generally considered by many music artists to be the very best hard bop trumpeter from the 1980s and ’90s, Tom Harrell has performed within a distinguished style for many bandleaders. His design mixes together the energy of Clifford Dark brown using the lyricism of Chet Baker. Harrell was raised in North California and toured with Stan Kenton (1969), Woody Herman (1970-1971), and Horace Metallic (1973-1977). He relocated to NY in the middle-’70s, and performed during this time period with Cecil Payne, Expenses Evans (1979), the Lee Konitz non-et (1979-1981), and George Russell (1982). Harrell traveled the entire world using the Phil Woods Quintet (1983-1989) and continued to generally lead his personal bands, documenting for Modern and Chesky before getting at RCA for 1996’s Labyrinth; following outings included 1997’s The Artwork of Tempo, 1999’s Time’s Reflection, 2001’s Heaven, and 2003’s Smart Kids. In 2007, Harrell relocated to High Notice and released Light On. Harrell continuing in an identical vein along with his atmospheric 2009 launch Prana Dance and 2010’s Roman Evenings. In 2011, he released the likewise expansive ENOUGH TIME of sunlight.
