The Yetties

Among England’s longest enduring folk groupings, the Yetties — Bonny Sartin, Pete Shulter, and Macintosh McCulloch — all originally hailed in the community of Yetminster, close to Sherborne, in Dorset; therefore their name. Western world Nation natives, the threesome (originally a quartet with Bob Common, who still left in 1979) steeped their music and stage banter in the music, tales, and laughter of their house. The trio transformed professional in 1967, and produced its initial appearance on record the next year, using the discharge of Celebration at Towersea for the Zeus label, which highlighted two tracks with the group, “The Leaf” and “The Thrashin’ Machine.” They cut their initial LP, Fifty Rock of Loveliness, in 1969, for the Acorn label. They released two LPs in 1970, Who’s A-fear’d: Tracks and Music from Dorset and Maintain A’Runnin’ — It is the Yetties! on Acorn and Argo, respectively (the last mentioned a traditional imprint of British Decca). They continued to be on Argo for seven even more albums, through 1975, including Dorset Can be Beautiful, including among their best-known interpretations of the folk tune, “The Nutting Young lady”; the album’s name monitor also became their first one, in 1974. They continued to be on Decca before end from the 1970s, when the label was marketed and folded in to the Polygram firm, periodically documenting with guest musician Toni Arthur — their last Decca LP was a live record. They’ve also got a long-running BBC radio present, known as Cider and Tune. The group provides performed on four continents, and offered not merely as musical ambassadors for Britain but also performed a key function in keeping different musical customs alive — among many various other recordings, they’ve constructed books and documented albums of folk music gathered with the Dorset writer Thomas Hardy and his family members, and also documented those tracks on instruments owned by Hardy and people of his family members. They remain mixed up in 21st century, today among the longest carrying on folk music clothes in England.
