The Senders

The initial incarnation of rock and roll & move revivalists the Senders gigged around NEW YORK clubs through the later ’70s, led by vocalist Philippe Marcade. They still left only one documenting behind, 1980’s Seven Melody Super One, which highlighted a pub rock-inflected mixture of ’50s-design originals and addresses of early rock and roll & move and R&B music by performers like Small Richard and Howlin’ Wolf. Following the band split up, Marcade led an R&B combo known as the Backbones, who also blended addresses with originals. In 1989, three primary members from the Senders — including Marcade and guitarist Crazy Costs Thompson — reunited with a fresh bass participant and documented the live record Perform the Sender Thing at CBGB.
