The Chop Tops

The Chop Tops certainly are a rockabilly trio from Santa Cruz, California, formed within the mid-’90s by Gary “Sinner” Marsh (vocals). They quickly constructed momentum around their Bay Region groundings with a combined mix of rockabilly, browse, punk, and psychobilly, and debuted on record with 1997’s Revved-Up Rockabilly on Swillbilly Music. Stories of Sizzling Rods, Sizzling Broads and Lucky Chances adopted in 1999. Constantly Wild appeared annually later on Moving Rock and roll, marking the debut of Shelby on acoustic guitar. The Chop Tops’ blistering 2001 arranged Evil Six captured the eye of Brian Setzer. Impressed, Setzer included the Chop Tops on his ’68 Return Unique in August 2001. The band’s 1st compilation found its way to 2005, entitled Hicks with Sticks: A City North of Bakersfield, as well as the Chop Tops’ 5th full-length, Triple Deuces, made an appearance in 2006, accompanied by Fatal Like four years afterwards. Josh became a member of the music group in 2014, playing upright bass to complement Sinner’s standup drum package. The band continuing to tour frequently, and have distributed stages with more information on roots, rock and roll, and punk works, including Inactive Kennedys, the Children, Chuck Berry, Hyperlink Wray, John Lee Hooker, Crazy Cavan & the Tempo Rockers, Wanda Jackson, Dick Dale, the Trashmen, the Blasters, Suicidal Tendencies, and Dwight Yoakam.
