Susu

Brooklyn noise-rock trio Susu are element of a noise-rock continuum with origins that stretch completely back to pioneering ’60s freaks like Captain Beefheart, the Velvet Underground, as well as the Godz, through the Fall in the U.K. and Sonic Youngsters in the U.S., and following that into ’90 serves like Unwound, Helium, and Tsunami and thence in to the modern prefers of Deerhoof. Guitarist Andrea Haver and bassist Michael Gabry favour both nonstandard tunings and in physical form aggressive shows both vocally and instrumentally, over drums that trip the fine series between free of charge jazz and utter chaos. Susu started as a far more regular post-hardcore band known as Surgery Weekend, which also included drummer Justin Bilicki and two various other guitarists. As Haver and Gabry had taken control of the band’s musical path, the music group slimmed right down to the trio of themselves and Bilicki and shortened their name from Medical procedures Sunday towards the similarly meaningless but even more lyrical Susu. Dealing with manufacturer Martin Bisi, an integral figure from the brand new York avant-garde picture from the 1980s which is normally among Susu’s essential musical touchstones, the trio documented their self-titled debut in 2006. After its discharge, Bilicki was changed by Oliver Riviera Drew for the band’s second established, the 2007 EP Gain. Win premiered both being a six-track digital download so that as a limited-edition three-track vinyl fabric EP, bypassing Compact disc formats entirely.
