RFD Boys

The RFD Children — Charlie Roehrig (lead vocals, guitar), Paul Shapiro (bass, vocals), Dick Dieterle (fiddle, vocals), and Willard Spencer (banjo, dobro, vocals) — formed in 1969 on the School of Michigan in Ann Arbor. (The “RFD” means “Rural Free of charge Delivery,” that is how farmers utilized to get their email.) There, they performed concerts 3 or 4 nights weekly on the now-defunct Pretzel Bell; this concentrate on their music allow them compose, compose, and generate three albums and play several national bluegrass celebrations (in addition to be featured over the cover of Bluegrass Unlimited newspaper). During this time period, Shapiro and Dieterle went to and graduated from medical college, Roehrig received a Ph.D. in economics and Spencer do high-tech production just work at his Solid Audio recording studio room. By 1983, the music group relocated their “house” to Ann Arbor’s folk membership, the Ark, and pared straight down performances to 2 times a month. Over time, the RFD Children have got performed with Costs Monroe, Ralph Stanley, Jimmy Martin, the united states Gentlemen, Allison Krauss, as well as the Newgrass Revival, amongst others, and have opened up for Randy Travis and Ricky Nelson.
